UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

BSc. Degree in Urban and Regional Planning (BSc URP)

Expected learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this programme, candidates are expected to have acquired knowledge, skills and ability to:

  • Comprehend and apply urban and regional planning theories, design concepts and principles in planning and design of human settlements
  • Understand and apply theoretical knowledge to realize spatial distribution of public facilities and services in hierarchical order
  • Understand sustainability concepts and apply knowledge to advise whether some of the planned projects may have adverse impacts on the environment
  • Apply ICT in planning and design of human settlements
  • Apply research skills in generating knowledge and innovative planning and management tools and methods

Entry qualifications

i) Direct entry (Form VI) Qualification

Two principal passes in the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Advanced Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Commerce or Accountancy. In addition, an applicant must have at a least a subsidiary pass in Advanced Mathematics at A-Level or at least “D” grade in Mathematics at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications

Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Rural Development with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Duration: 4 years

BSc. in Regional Development Planning (BSc RDP)

Entry qualifications

i) Direct entry (Form VI) Qualification

Two principal passes in the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Advanced Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Commerce or Accountancy. In addition, an applicant must have at least a subsidiary pass in Advanced Mathematics at A-Level or at least a “D” grade in Mathematics at O-Level.

ii) Equivalent Qualifications

Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Development Planning and Rural Development with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Duration: 4 years

BSc. in Housing and Infrastructure Planning (BSc HIP)

Expected learning outcomes 
Upon successful completion of this programme, candidates are expected to have acquired knowledge, skills and ability to:

  • Comprehend and apply housing and infrastructure theories and principles to realize integrated development
  • Develop and manage information systems, open source software, smart citizen tools and spatial data infrastructure (SDI) on housing and infrastructure
  • Apply planning and design skills for smart infrastructure and housing
  • Understand sustainability theories and apply them in creating resilient infrastructure and affordable housing to all end users
  • Apply research skills in generating knowledge and innovative planning and management tools and methods

Entry qualifications

Direct entry (Form VI) Qualification

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

MSc. in Urban Planning and Management (MSc. UPM)

Entry qualifications:

First or Second Class Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning (URP), Regional Development Planning (RDP) and Housing and Infrastructure Planning (HIP);  or relevant qualifications from Programs of the Schools of ARU,  Economics and Economic Planning

OR

Upper Second Class or above Postgraduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning or Architecture or Land Management and Valuation or Environmental Engineering or from relevant Programs of the Schools of ARU, other related programmes from recognized universities or institutions of higher learnings.

Duration: 18 Months

MSc. in Urban and Regional Development Planning and Management (MSc URPM) 

This programme is jointly conducted by Ardhi University and the Technical University of Dortmund. In this programme, students use half of their time (first year) in Dortmund and the remaining half in Tanzania or collaborating universities in Ghana, Chile and the Philippines.

Entry qualifications:

First or Second-Class Honors Bachelor’s degree of Ardhi University or a degree from any other recognized institution in Geography or Economics or Economic Planning or Public Administration or Business Administration.

OR

Relevant Postgraduate Diploma of the Ardhi University or other relevant diploma from a recognized University or Institution of higher learning.

Duration: 24 Months

MSc. Transportation Sciences (MSc TS) 

This is a double degree programme conducted by Ardhi University and with University of Hasselt Belgium. In this course, students use half of a year at Hasselt and lecturers two universities jointly supervise dissertation in the last semester.

Entry qualifications:

First or Second-Class Honors Bachelor’s degree of Ardhi University or a degree from any other recognized institution in Geography or Economics or Engineering or any related science degree programme .

OR

Relevant Postgraduate Diploma of the Ardhi University or other relevant diploma from a recognized University or Institution of higher learning.

Duration: 18 Months

PhD Programmes

  1. Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Planning and Management by thesis (3 years).
  2. Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Planning and Management by Coursework and Dissertation (4 years). This is a double degree programme conducted by Ardhi University and with SLU, Sweden 
  3. Doctor of Philosophy in Economics (3 years)

Entry Qualifications for PhD programmes 
Relevant Master’s Degree of the Ardhi University or holder of equivalent standing Master’s Degree from another recognized University.
